Vivid Learning Systems President Matt Hammer was presented with a surprise "Special Achievement Award" by Educational Service District 123 on the 20th anniversary of the Crystal Apple Awards, recognizing "excellence in education".
In addition to honoring the finest teachers in the region, the Crystal Apple awards traditionally recognize remarkable members of the Tri-City community who work to encourage educators, students, and provide money, materials, and support for local public education.
Special Achievement Award recipients typically devote many hours of their personal time to ensure a vibrant, thriving environment for public education, educators, and children and families.
Matt Hammer is no exception.
Matt's belief and commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) education now spans many years of service and leadership; Matt currently serves as the Board President of the Washington State STEM Education Foundation Executive Committee.
While on the STEM Foundation board, he helped find and recruit many of the current board members and its current executive director. Last year, the Foundation, a public-private collaboration between K-12 schools, high education institutions and many of local businesses, helped students obtain more than $2 million worth of scholarships for higher education. Overall, using about $100,000 in local dollars from private business, the Foundation helped generate $5.2 million for education to benefit area students.
Under Matt’s leadership, the STEM Foundation has helped create and then find a way to build Delta High School, working with Kennewick, Pasco and Richland schools officials and boards of trustees, to expand critical STEM infrastructure. Matt’s entrepreneurial spirit and executive experience have proved a winning combination for area students who now enjoy Delta High School.
Following Matt’s example, Vivid Learning Systems and its employees regularly volunteer in support of student success and professional development at Delta High School. Vivid Learning Systems also offers internship opportunities to students at Delta High and to students across the mid-Columbia.
Matt is current President of Vivid Learning Systems, the fast-growing online safety training company and recent subsidiary of the Health & Safety Institute family of brands. In 2005, he became Vivid’s Chief Operations Officer and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 2007. Matt is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic vision of the company.
Matt has a BA in Marketing and Business Administration from Washington State University and 15 years of executive leadership experience in technology companies, particularly in the software-as-a-service (SaaS), business-to-business (B2B) category.
In addition to being the Board President of the Washington State STEM Education Foundation, Matt’s community involvement includes serving as past-chairman of the Three Rivers Community Foundation and founding member of PLADD (People Learning About Destructive Decisions).
The Crystal Apple Awards are a true community endeavor, co-sponsored by numerous organizations and businesses all wishing to honor the educators and local public education champions like Matt Hammer, who have made a positive impact on the lives of students. This year’s Platinum Level Sponsors include: Bechtel National Inc., Evergreen Associates, Gesa Credit Union, Johnson Controls, Pasco Kennewick Rotary, Stevens Clay, Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary Club, and Washington River Protection Solutions.
Matt 's sustained civic engagement sets an example for us all. Thanks for doing Vivid proud, supporting public education for our kids in our community, and once again setting the high bar for organizational leadership.
